Roommates in Lockdown

Feet

It was early December when Craig told Nick that he would be moving out. They had been living together for three years since they had both finished university together in Manchester. They both worked in the same business, Web Design, but had gotten jobs with different companies. About a year into living together, Craig had started seeing one of the girls from his work, finally getting engaged about three months ago.

When they had gotten engaged, he knew it was only a matter of time. They were sitting together watching the news before they both went to bed, hearing about the growing sickness in Wuhan, China.

“Nick, I got something I need to tell you.” Craig started.

“You’re secretly gay and in love with me? I’m sorry dude but you know I’m only into girls.” Nick replied, laughing.

“After new year I’m going to be moving out. Katie and I have been talking about it for a while and we found a place, you will like it man, got a spare room for a man cave too.” Craig told him.

“That’s really cool mate, I knew you would be moving out sometime. Guess I will have to start looking for a new roommate.”

“I’m really sorry mate, I’ve loved living here with you. It’s been great.” Craig told him sincerely. Craig hadn’t wanted to move out so soon, but he knew he had to start his life with Katie, and so did Nick.

“Couch is always yours for when you do something stupid, and Katie is pissed at you.” Nick told him honestly.

“Cheers mate that means a lot.” He replied sarcastically.

“Hey, what else is a best man meant to do, let you sleep in your car?”

They continued their bantering for a while joking about how Craig would have to be cleaner and do more work around the house before they both turned in for the night.

As Craig wasn’t meant to be moving out till mid January, Nick didn’t start to advertise his spare room until after the new year. He posted adverts in the usual places offering the room. Within a day he already had three people wanting to look at the room, Dean, Bobby and Sam.

Craig had already started to pack his things, so it was fine to show people his room and see whether or not they wanted it. Nick had decided to do the viewings on a Saturday, making it easier to fit around his work commitments. Dean saw the room first.

Dean liked the room immediately, making Nick wonder if this had been the first place he had looked at, it wasn’t as big as some two bed flats that were available in the city. He was very enthusiastic, but didn’t think they would get along. He told him that he had other viewings that day and would let him know by the evening.

Bobby arrived next just after 2pm. It was immediately apparent that he wouldn’t be getting the room. He was very geeky and childish, even though they both worked in technology, it wasn’t the kind of roommate he was looking for. He didn’t seem very interested in the room either considering it was over an hour commute to his job outside the city. Nick told him he would let him know by the end of the evening, the same as Dean.

The last guy to turn up was Sam. He was starting to consider keeping the advert up until he saw him, who wasn’t a him. Sam was actually a she.

“Oh god, how do you make it up those stairs everyday?” She asked him, huffing and puffing, out of breath. “I’m Samantha, but everyone calls me Sam.” She continued, holding her hand out to him.

Nick was taken aback immediately as he looked at her. She was beautiful. She was slightly shorter than his 5ft 8, her brown hair flowing freely across her shoulder. She was slim, but not skinny. She had an average sized chest, not too big, probably a C cup he guessed. Her face was stunning. She had full red lips, giving her a slightly pouty look, with straight, white teeth and a nose that rose slightly at the end. She was dressed in blue jeans, partially covered by a long, black, Canada Goose jacket.

“I’m Nick, please come in.” He told her as he stepped aside to let her in.

“Wow this place is great. You have a good view of the city, don’t you?” She asked him enthusiastically.

“Yes, I do, and about the stairs there is an elevator at the back of the building but I normally take the stairs.” The flat was on the forth floor of an old fashioned tower block that had been renovated before he moved in.

“Oh, I wish I had seen that before I trekked up a dozen flight of stairs.” He showed her around the apartment, starting with the room that she might be occupying, and finishing back in the living room, more specifically on the balcony.

He wasn’t looking for a female roommate, especially not one as attractive as Sam. They sat down in the living room, asking her the usual application questions such as age, occupation, previous living arrangements.

She was 21, working as a personal assistant at the moment while she applied for graduate jobs. She had recently moved back in with her parents after graduation, while she saved up the money for a deposit on a room somewhere.

As they sat talking, she had taken off her jacket revealing a close fitting Ankara bayan escort t-shirt, showing off her breasts. He kept stealing glances at them while she looked away around the living room.

He knew all the cliché downfalls of sharing a flat with a beautiful woman that he was instantly attracted to. What would it be like when she brought someone home with her? What if he did? What if he made a drunken comment she didn’t like? What if she did? But he couldn’t help himself. He had another week until Craig was planning to move out but didn’t want to do anymore viewings, seeing it as a waste of time. When he knew she would be able to pay the rent, he readily agreed and welcomed her to the flat.

“Oh my god, thank you so much. I promise you won’t regret it. I’m super clean and tidy and I can cook.” She told him, her smile reaching from ear to ear.

“It’s fine don’t worry. My old roommate was a slob and I survived with him. So, when do you want to move in?” He asked, hoping he wouldn’t have to pay any extra rent.

“Actually, I was hoping to move in as soon as possible. I saw all the boxes packed up and was wondering when your old roommate would be leaving?”

“I can call him now and find out if you like? He has already moved most of his stuff across to the new place.”

He quickly picked up his phone, calling Craig to see when he would be getting the rest of his stuff. It turned out that he would be picking it up the next morning early before he went away for a few days with his fiancée. He hung up saying they would catch up in the morning.

“Right, he said he is coming tomorrow morning to collect them. You can move in as soon as you want after that.” He told her.

“Wow, OK, can I move in tomorrow? I have all the money for rent and stuff, just want to get out of my parents’ house you know?”

He thought it over for a second, not finding any reason to say no, he agreed. She stayed for a few more minutes looking around her soon to be room, no doubt planning where she would put her things.

“Right, well I better get home, I got some packing to do.” She told him grabbing her coat and wrapping it around her. “I will see you tomorrow? Around midday?”

“Yeah sure, I will have your key ready by then.”

“Thanks, see you tomorrow.”

He closed the door behind her, going back to sit on the sofa. ‘What have I just done?’ He thought to himself.

The next morning came along and true to his word, Craig was at the flat before 9am.

“You got ten minutes for a coffee before you go?” Nick asked his friend.

“Yeah sure, I left Katie getting dressed so she won’t be ready for another hour. Everything OK? What’s the new roommate like, which guy did you go with?” He asked.

“That’s what I want to talk about. I went for the last one, but Sam is Samantha.” Craig’s face lit up with laughter as soon as he said it.

“Oh mate, you didn’t? Is she hot?” He asked him.

“Like on fire mate, seriously. Brunette, slim, looks like she has got a nice rack.” He told him, slipping into guy mode. He was going to miss these kinds of talks.

“You know you can’t hit that right?” Craig asked him rhetorically.

“I know. Seriously I know, I just….”

“Couldn’t stop looking at her rack and yes just slipped out of your mouth. Do you know anything about her?”

“I know her name, and that she is a personal assistant. Other than that, I guess I will find out along the way. You never know she might be the silent, loner type, staying in her room all the time.” Nick told him logically.

“Do you believe that, or trying to make me believe it? You found her on Facebook or Instagram yet?” Craig asked.

“Yeah I found her last night.” He pulled up her profile on Facebook showing it to Craig.

“Holy fuck mate. She is stunning. You are an idiot.” He told him laughing at his friend’s face.

“I know, could be fun though. Not much I can do about it now.” He changed the topic, seeing how Craig was enjoying living with his fiancée and where they were going for their break away. He only stayed another ten minutes before he headed out taking the remains of his belongings with him. They promised to meet up at his new place when they returned from their holiday. Just before midday, Sam arrived bringing with her a friend to help move her stuff.

“Hi, welcome back. Do you want any help with your stuff?” He asked her politely.

“Yes please. Amy isn’t as strong as she led me to believe.” She said pointing her head back to her friend.

“Fuck off, you just picked the light boxes. Hi I’m Amy, Sam’s friend.” She dropped the two boxes she was carrying, holding her hand out to shake his.

“Nice to meet you.” He wasn’t surprised that she was also stunning. The pair of them could have been on ‘Love Island’ looking the way they did. He shook her hand lightly. He went down to her car with them, helping her get the last few boxes while they carried her bags and suitcase. He helped them get all the boxes in her room and left them to get her unpacked. Escort bayan Ankara He only interrupted them once when he brought them in a coffee each.

By mid afternoon Amy had left, leaving Sam alone in her room. Nick didn’t want to pressure her into coming out, deciding to leave her to settle in and sat watching TV in the living room. He had recently started watching ‘Locke and Key’ only having watched the first episode the night before. About ten minutes in, Sam came out of her room to make herself a drink.

“What you watching?” She asked him interested.

“Locke and Key, new show on Netflix, it’s been signed for a second season so thought I would give it a go.”

“What’s it about?”

Nick wasn’t sure if she genuinely interested in the show or if she was just trying to make conversation.

“Why don’t you come and watch it? I can restart, I’m only a bit in.”

She came into the living room, taking the matching chair as he was on the sofa. He restarted back to the beginning of the first episode.

“No, you don’t have to go back to the start of the season. The recap will do.” She told him surprised.

“It’s fine, I think I dozed off last night when I watched it anyway.” He settled into the sofa seeing her beyond his feet. She looked beautiful sitting there with her feet curled under her with a cup of tea in hand.

Within a few minutes she was hooked into the show, him paying equal attention to her and the episode.

“Next.” She said when the episode had finished, excited by the cliff-hanger ending.

They sat watching the next two episodes, noticing that it had already gotten dark when it finished.

“I’m going to cook us something for your first night here.” He told her. He knew she hadn’t gone shopping or anything like that and wanted to make her feel welcome.

“Thanks. But I want to help.” She helped in the kitchen, doing most of the preparation work for a spaghetti bolognese. She told him that she always liked to cook on the weekend with a glass of wine and opened the first of the three bottles she had brought with her. They made and ate their dinner going through the first bottle and opening the second. Throughout the meal and rest of the night they sat talking together, getting to know each other.

Both of them were single, her for over a year whereas he had only been single for a little over four months. She told him about her career aspirations, wanting to use her business degree to start a business one day. She was using her current job as a way of gaining knowledge into the running of a major corporation. By the end of the night the pair were slightly tipsy, deciding to call it a night.

They both went to their separate bedrooms, Nick watching her nice, round ass as she went into hers. As soon as he got in the room he stripped off and fell asleep thinking about his new roommate.

The first couple of months of them living together had gone well. They had settled into an easy living routine. She didn’t spend too much time in the bathroom, generally taking it while he was still asleep. She often cooked for them both and had agreed to share the shopping bill equally, making the financial situation much simpler than it had been with Craig. They had finished ‘Locke and Key’, starting other different shows, always watching them together. All in all, it was great living with her, it was easy. There was only one problem, he was still deeply attracted to Sam. He had been looking to meet someone, however, there hadn’t been anyone that caught his eye like she did.

Luckily, she hadn’t met anyone and brought them home. He wasn’t sure how he would have reacted to that. The main temptation he was facing was from her in the evenings. Often, after work, she would shower and change into her version of pyjamas, a short pair of shorts and a tank top. At first, she had been conservative, wearing a bra underneath but after two weeks, had stopped this and now walked around with her nipples poking through her top, requiring Nick to hide his erection while sitting together.

They had their own circle of friends, rarely mixing outside of the flat. She had met Craig a couple of times but that was all. They had fun together, normally having drinks together on the weekend, sometimes drinking far too much. One of those nights, in the beginning of March, she had brought up about him being single.

“Nick, why don’t you have a girlfriend… or boyfriend?” She randomly blurted out refilling his glass.

“Girlfriend. And because I haven’t met anyone I like, that I can have.” Why was he telling her this so blatantly, he thought to himself, even after all the wine, he still had his whits about him, so why was he telling her this?

“So there is someone you like. Someone you can’t have.” She repeated, more voicing her thoughts.

“Oh shit, she knows.” Nick thought to himself. If she did, she didn’t let on.

“What, is she a girl from work?” She asked. She knew full well that it wasn’t.

“Something like that yeah. What about Bayan escort Ankara you? Why are you still single?” He asked her, trying to deflect the attention anyway from himself.

Sam herself was in deep thought. She hadn’t been as immediately attracted to Nick as he had been with her, but she had felt herself growing closer to him. Over the past week she had laid awake in bed thinking about him, not knowing he was doing the same about her.

“Me? I had a boyfriend at university. We broke up before the end of the year as he was moving to London for a job. We didn’t see the point in trying to make it work long distance.”

The conversation suddenly ended when she saw the news headline showing on the TV. The Corona virus, as it was first known, had got a lot worse with lockdowns being enforced in different countries, and being considered in the UK. They stayed up watching the news, considering what it would mean for them. There had been queues and shortages at supermarkets and petrol stations, and Sam was particularly worried about it. Two weeks later and the whole country was in lockdown. Neither of them was to leave the house except for emergencies and food shopping. That first night of lockdown, they sat down to discuss how it would work with them.

They had both been told that they would be working from home from Monday, luckily they had the weekend to prepare for it.

“How are you feeling about all of this Sam?” Nick asked her starting the conversation.

“I don’t know to be honest. I don’t mind the working from home but I’m worried about shopping and having everything that we need.” She replied.

“I have a plan for that, but what about work? It’s easy for me as I mainly work through email anyway but there will be times when we do meetings online. How about you?” He asked her.

“About the same, but I think I will have a lot more time on voice chats especially with my boss. I was planning to get a desk tomorrow and work from my room. I guess you will work out here?” She had noticed that he had already brought home a desktop computer and desk and set them up in the living room.

“I was thinking that, yes. My room doesn’t exactly have the same space as out here and when working on a design I need it to spread out my ideas, and the office software to implement them.” Sam still had no idea what he did. He had tried to explain to her before, but she lost interest quickly. She liked computers as far as she needed them for her job but other than that, she wasn’t bothered.

“OK that’s cool.” She said. “But is your job the kind where you are constantly busy, or will you have some down time to watch TV?”

He chuckled at that knowing that there were really two answers. “It depends on the day and the projects I have on, but if anyone ever asks, I’m busy all day, everyday, from 8am until 5pm.”

They decided some simple rules for the working environment. They decided to keep the space open, however they would both show a sign if they were in meetings, his sign a little white flag. Both agreed to wear earphones as well so not to bother the other person. They had also decided to spend the next day, Saturday, getting everything they could possibly need, a computer desk and chair for her, and a large scale food shop, stocking up on all essentials for them both.

The shopping had gone well, going to three different stores so to not clear out shelves. By the end of the day, Nick’s car was fully loaded with furniture, and food. Mainly rice, pasta, ingredients for sauces and other such things, but they also had enough meat and frozen pizza to completely fill the freezer.

They also stocked up on alcohol. Neither of them were heavy drinkers but they knew that shelves would soon be empty and decided to buy an extra bottle of everything. It was an expensive trip, but it would be worth it, not having to go and expose themselves to the disease that had essentially shut down the country.

“Wow that is a lot of stuff.” Sam said to him as they brought everything up and laid it on the dining room table.

“Yeah, I know, but it’s stuff that won’t go off, and will be used in the long run. I don’t know why you insisted on so many pizzas though.”

“You realise it’s only essential stores that will be open, the takeaway doesn’t count as essential.” She told him laughing.

“You serious? I thought I would still at least be able to get a kebab.” He told her exasperated.

“Afraid not, but I have had an idea on this. You and I make our weekend takeaway, how about we try and cook some of the stuff we would normally eat? Nandos is too easy though.” She added with a smile.

“OK, that can be a mid week meal then. This is going to be different, we are going to be spending a lot of time together. Think you can handle it?”

“Nick, honestly, I’m so glad I chose to live here with you. A lot of other people would have annoyed me, but I think with you it will be good. What about you? Think you can cope seeing me all day?”

Nick had been wondering the same thing. He still had strong feelings for her. She was fun, easy going, and God damn sexy. He had seen her a few times walking around the flat in nothing but a towel, doing absolutely nothing to stave off his desire for her. She looked incredible, her hair hanging wet and loose over her shoulder. He wondered if that would happen more often now.
